Laura Soma, LEED AP BD+C

Sr. Project Engineer, GLY Construction

Almost 20 years ago Laura joined GLY as a site administrator with nothing more than a high school diploma. She knew right away that she could see herself as part of the GLY family for a very long time – but as much as she loved her job it wasn’t challenging her. She took the Construction Technical Skills classes at the AGC and became completely engrossed with the industry. Her supervisor told her to talk to the “big boss” about becoming a Project Manager. Gathering her courage she knocked on the door – he said that if she did the training, they’d give her a shot.

This advice marked the beginning of a career of continuous learning. Laura went on to complete the UW’s Construction Management Certificate Course and earned an Associate’s Degree in Business Management, all while working 40+ hours a week. Today Laura is a Senior Project Engineer recognized by clients, design teams and field crews alike for her ability to bring all the team players together to drive the best possible outcomes and most cost-effective solutions. A passionate advocate for the environment, Laura is GLY’s “go-to” resource for all issues relating to sustainable solutions. She is a LEED accredited professional, an active member of the Cascadia Green Building Council and Chair of the Living Future Institute’s Seattle Eastside Collaborative.
